Texts reveal how Exclusive Brethren paid witness to keep quiet
What was not clear at the time, to either McCorkell or me, was how far the Exclusive Brethren would go to continue to resist the truth being told.
Just three days after the defamation writ lodged, Lloyd Grimshaw, a director of the company suing me, signed an agreement with McCorkell. Entitled "Services and Confidentiality Deed", the agreement proposed to pay McCorkell $920,000 over 10 years; part up front, the rest in monthly payments of $6000, along with a $75,000 "holding" account, to keep his mouth shut.
"Dean's been texting me today and so it will happen this morning, I believe. I'm tired and nervous but excited."
At 3.18pm that day he texted his friend again: "They just confirmed it's paid."
"Dean Hales is going to tell Lloyd to release."
"Brethren confirmed payment."
Once again, his business bank account records the transfer – another $137,500.

Bible & Gospel Trust, associated with a religious group known as the Exclusive Brethren, sued Sallie and Timothy Twinam claiming that they were the owners and operators of the website Peebs.net, which is critical of the Exclusive Brethren.
Bible & Gospel Trust is seeking an injunction preventing the publication of its copyrighted material, an order compelling Twinam and Peebs.net to destroy all copies of the copyrighted material in their possession and to publish a retraction and an apology, and compensatory and punitive damages.

What really happened to the Brethren in 1965 and who really did what. The greatest rift in their history after 'separation from the world' ripped them to shreds

How much the ordinary brethren ever learned is questionable and there is credible testimony that sort of thing is nothing new in the EB.However it also seems part of the EB psyche to ‘just accept it’ and question nothing. We were programed to think that way.Scripture calls that a ‘cauterized conscience’ -eventually nothing bothers it anymore

If we could keep this thread to 'Must Reads' rather than personal opinions it would be helpful. There are generations of EB's growing up that have been lied to and as such are incapable of making their own educated judgement of the Hales 'System'. We can help them.

Anyone 60 or over remaining in fellowship with the PBCC must be able to remember these events, is living a lie.

What happened, happened.
This is a letter written 18 November 1965 by John S Hales to Brian M Deck of Motueka, New Zealand, in which he acknowledges his sin in promoting commerce in the assembly.

Motueka

I have sinned against you & your wife & household and the saints & the assembly in Motueka at the meetings in May. My course has not been in the Spirit but in the flesh & there has been much transgression, but the things that weigh on me are these.

The way in which the status & exercises of the assembly in Motueka were set aside and not given any place to.

Much that was offensive in speaking & unbecoming was allowed in the meetings. I think in particular of the way I spoke to one brother concerning his contribution to the special collection. This was wholly anti-Christian & grievously injurious to the brother.

There were references to two other brothers concerning their private income - one for being small and one for being large. Besides a direct transgression against the brothers, it brought in the spirit of the world & commerce & worldly advantage & the ridiculing of a saint of God.

I am ashamed of the way I spoke to your wife at the family table. I was expressing my judgement which I now see to have derived from the flesh & not the Spirit. I transgressed most grievously.

I transgressed against you too in having part in commercial meetings in your house at the time of the meetings. It is clear too that the interference in your business matters was a transgression on my part.

I am appalled as I think of the kind of man I have allowed in the assembly & among the saints in contrast to the spirit of the men of God who have laboured & lived amongst you & live yet.

I am horrified at the dishonour to the Lord & to His assembly, at the kind of alien spirit & conduct that has been so active in the holy things of God. I am grieved at the pain & suffering I have inflicted on the saints.

I am under discipline for my course but I desire to convey something to you to put right in some way the awful wrong I have done.

(Signed) John S Hales

I was physically at the Aberdeen meetings in July 1970 with J.Taylor Jr.. and can testify that what was on the tapes - not sure of the link to give you to listen to them , (perhaps someone would be able to do that?), as it is a while ago since I last listened to them, but can verify that it was absolutely verbatim; nothing added or taken away or altered. I have a crystal clear memory of the events.

Mind you, a simple google search of 'You bum Jim Taylor Aberdeen' produced this -
The Aberdeen Tapes - 'A time of blasphemy'
The following transcript is of the original recording of the afternoon session in
Aberdeen, Saturday July 25th, 1970 which you may already be hearing. Use the
controls in the right column to Play / Pause / Stop.
The sadly-missed Roger Stott prepared this transcript for Peebs.Net and stated:
I'm attaching the Aberdeen transcript - which I personally transcribed from the
original spool in August 1970. The spool was sent to my father as he was a
trustee of the publishing depot. The original spool was stolen from me by the
Frost Brethren in Hampton. They asked if they could borrow it and gave an
absolute guarantee that they would return it. Then as soon as they got it they
told me they were keeping it as I had no right to it!
The original spool was sent to my father (as a trustee of the depot) and I was
given the task of transcribing it. I took great care to get every word of the
transcription right; where there was any confusion I consulted with four different
people who were present. I also made some attempt to describe the vulgar
uproar that accompanied (and sometimes took over) the occasion."

And waxes into the start of the meeting as below

JT Jnr: What the 'ell are we doing here? You so and so, what are you saying?
TMB: This will get us somewhere, this will get us somewhere, I don't know
where.
JT Jnr: George, what do you think of this here? George Brown, what do you
think of this here?
GMS: I'm sorry I didn't hear your question.
JT Jnr: I wasn't talking to you, boob. George!
GWB: Yes, Mr. Taylor.
JT Jnr: What was the answer?
GWB: I don't quite know, Mr. Taylor, what to make of it.
JT Jnr: Anybody know that. Is your wife here?
GWB: Yes, she is.
JT Jnr: And she's mad.
GWB: No, she isn't, Mr. Taylor.
JT Jnr: She is so. All going to have a good time here. Oh, yes. We're going to
...you nut! ... we're going to have a good time here. And you, you dear, dear,
dear, dear, dear boob, what do you want to say?
JAG: See the stars and stripes you know?
JT Jnr: Rubbish! What are you looking at, you boob? See that fellow there? He's
too serious.
JAS: I was thinking of the value of ...
JT Jnr: You were thinking of what?
JAS: The value of Paul and his intelligence in the mystery.
(Loud laughter and stamping.)
JT Jnr: Now we must get on with this meeting here and the next address: Now
we have Mr. George Terries. The next address. You never had it so good. You
big boob, you. And then, the next is what? Because we're still producing (not
clear). We had the hell of a time in our house just a few minutes ago -- 'ell of a
life. That so-and-so. But its No. 2 now. We got No 1. That's No. 1, that's George
Terries. Anybody know him? Anybody know George Terries? We're going to have
the 'ell of a time here. I want to tell you my purpose that he's a very good
factory. I'm still looking for that. George is No. 1 ... No. 2 is coming but it comes
slow. She's in terrific pain. You bastard! You bastard! We need a doctor here. Go
to sleep Stanley, go to sleep. We have plenty of hymns, to hell with you. We're
having a very good time. You bum, you. You big bum. Scott! Bum! Scott! Bum!
Scott! Bum! Scott! Bum! Scott! Bum! Now you have it. You never have it. You
never had it so good. You never had it like this, you nut, you.
(40 seconds pause with bursts of laughter) (Shouting)
JT Jnr: You stinking bum! You stink! Why didn't you bring some toilet paper
with you. Very fine meetings.
MBT: Yes, first class.
(Pause with indistinct remarks and laughter then shouts of laughter with
cheering, whistling and stamping.)
MBT: What I would like to know Mr. Taylor -- is this to be the pattern for all
meetings?
JT Jnr: Look at that son of a bitch there.
(Pause culminating again in laughter, stamping and whistling.)
JT Jnr: You never had it like this before. You bastard you.
(Loud laughter, stamping and whistling.)
JT Jnr: David, where the hell you been? Thank God for you. I thank God for you
every time. You been stinking somewhere. What you been doing at?

Exclusive Brethren man jailed for 18 years for repeatedly raping and beating son
How many of you broke bread with this man? Oh, you say, PBCC people would never do such a thing. Stop fooling yourselves. Wake up.
